Weeks follow the ISO 8601 standard: they run from Monday to Sunday, and week 1 is the week that contains the year’s first Thursday. That is why the first days of January can belong to the last week of the year before, and why a year has either 52 or 53 weeks.
Example. 1 January 2027 is a Friday and belongs to week 53 of 2026; week 1 of 2027 starts on Monday 4 January. The year 2026 has 53 weeks, 2025 has 52.
