How it works
- Choose the settings above, then how many questions: 6, 12, 18 or 24. Each question has a picture, so a sheet holds fewer questions than an arithmetic sheet.
- Print the sheet. The answer key comes on a page of its own and shows the shaded figure wherever the question asked you to shade one.
- Or practise on screen. Type a fraction like 3/4 in the box and check. There is no score and no clock.
- Keep the link. The address holds both the settings and the figures, so the same link gives the same sheet again.
Five kinds of question
- Name it. A circle or a bar is cut into equal parts and some are shaded: what fraction is shaded? 3 of 6 parts can be written 3/6 or 1/2; both are marked right.
- Of a set. What fraction of the dots is shaded?
- Compare. Two figures: which shows more, or do they show the same?
- Shade. Shade 3/4 of an empty figure. Any three of the four parts will do.
- Same part. The part shown as 1/2 is drawn again in quarters and written 2/4. Here the answer has to be written in the parts asked for, so 1/2 is not enough.
The first level uses halves to eighths and sets of up to ten dots; the second goes up to twelfths and sets of up to twenty.
